Game Thread 4/16/09: Angels @ Mariners – Let’s Just Get Out of Here

Los Angeles Angels (3-5) @ Seattle Mariners (7-2)

Starters: LAA – Joe Saunders (1-1, 2.63)  SEA – Chris Jakubauskas (1-0, 4.50)

Game Info: 7:10 PM PT TV-FSW, Radio-830 AM

After two games that the Angels would rather forget, they have to be hoping to just put out a better effort tonight and get out of town to try and regroup in Minnesota.

Even though their offense has been flat, I like the Angels chances in this one.  Most of Seattle’s top hitters are left-handed so having the southpaw Saunders on the bump should hopefully neutralize the Mariner offense.  That should mean the Angels just need to avoid shooting themselves in the foot, which is proving quite difficult so far this year.

Going for the Mariners is a 30-year old rookie from Anaheim, Chris Jakubauskas (and that name is just as hard to say as it is to spell).  This will be his first career start, so undoubtedly he will give the Angels fits for no apparent reason.

  • Angels avoid the sweep, but not until after some tightrope walking by Brian Fuentes
  • No homers for Big Game Hunter tonight
  • One Angel error tonight, but none by a pitcher

As always, leave a comment and follow along with this post during the game.
