The Angels announced Wednesday evening that Triple-A pitcher Matt Palmer would be tabbed to start Thursday’ home game against the Detroit Tigers.  Palmer is not on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding roster move will have to be made to make room for Palmer prior to Thursday’s game.

The need for Palmer to start arises from the continued onslaught of Angel injuries.  Palmer is effectively taking Dusting Moseley’s spot in the rotation, though it should be Darren Oliver’s normal turn to start.  However, Oliver has come down with a stiff arm after making his first start in years earlier this week.  Hopefully he will be available to start Saturday when Moseley’s regular turn is due to come up.  Otherwise the Halos are going to need to dig even further into an already barren roster to find a spot starter.

As for Palmer, he has struggled so far at Salt Lake, but he has only made two starts.  The 30-year old was  the logical option to get the battlefield promotion as he was moderately impressive in spring training and is the only minor league starter in the Angels’ farm system with major league experience (albeit not very much).
