Granted, losing Figgy to the Mariners hurts a lot more than losing Washburn and Spiezio, but I'm OK with it as long as Bobby Abreu is our leadoff hitter next year. He can get on base as well as Figgy, can steal a base, and he adds an element of power to the leadoff spot that Figgy didn't have. I do get a bit nervous when I hear talk of employing Aybar as our leadoff man, however. He needs to bat ninth while learning the nuances of the game like Figgy did his first few years.

Who would take over Abreu's run-producing spot in the order? There are a few OF/1b/DH types on the market that would come relatively cheap and would likely be productive: Matsui, Thome, Delgado, Nick Johnon all come to mind. It would be nice to pick up a good fielding OF so that we can hide Abreu at DH, but the only one that comes to mind is Mike Cameron, and he will likely be more expensive than the DH-types. We would also have money left over after signing one of those guys to fortify the starting rotation with a high upside type like Duchscherer or Harden. I think Duchscherer especially could potentially be a bargain and provide some solid innings this year for a one year commitment. Don't know how this market will play out, but I think we can get a DH type and Duchscherer for around $13-14 million, probably less than that.

Finally, I think we can get Halladay without including Wood. I think the BJays already have decent players at SS and 3b, and would likely be more interested in a catching prospect like Conger, a SP like Saunders, SP prospects like Reckling, and OF prospects like Bourjos. We'd probably also have to include Napoli, who could catch/DH for them.

Can't wait to see how this all plays out...
