5. If Jered Weaver really wants to complete his ascent to ace status, he simply has to find a way to get the Angels a win on Friday. If there is one thing aces absolutely have to do it is end losing streaks, plain and simple. The way things are going right now, Weaver might have to throw a perfect game to pull it off (especially since he is facing off against King Felix), but if that is what he has to do then that is what he has to do.
4. Do the Angels really have to let Joe Saunders pitch this weekend? Can’t they just pretend that he already got shelled and knocked out of the game and just have Matt Palmer (not that he is much better) come in right away. We all know it is going to happen, so why bother going through the motions?
3. Can Mike Scioscia please just do something to shake up the line-up? I know they don’t really have a lot of options off the bench, but keeping the same order intact game after game just isn’t a viable plan right now. Even if it is just for one game, do something crazy to give the Angel batters a mental kick to the head and get them taking a new approach that lasts for more than one inning.
2. I’ve been so caught up in the losing streak that I nearly forgot about this being the first time we will see Chone Figgins as an Angel opponent. Whereas seeing John Lackey the other day only made me angry, seeing Figgins is just going to make me even more depressed. Even though Figgy is off to a terrible start for the M’s, I can’t help but things that the Angels would be off to a much better start if he were still their manning the leadoff spot and hot corner in Anaheim.
1. Who would have ever guessed before the season that when these two would meet for the first time that after all the talk about the Mariners being dark horse contenders that the Angels and Mariners would be duking it out for the rights to the AL West cellar? Things have gone horribly awry for both teams this year and you have to think that whichever team ends up losing this series is going to wind up suffering a knockout blow to their confidence and possibly their season.
