Daily links for the LA Angels including Angels want to add a reliable veteran reliever, Mathis having a forgettable season, Abreu spends a day with Ozzie Guillen and much more.

The Story: Mike Scioscia says the team considers adding a reliable veteran reliever will be a high priority.

The Monkey Says: Interestingly, he doesn’t use the word “closer.”  However, we can assume that improving at closer is at least an option, with Rafael Soriano possibly being their top target.

The Story: Jeff Mathis is having a season to forget.

The Monkey Says: They make it sound like his previous seasons were so memorable.  Mathis has always sucked, but he has sucked more than normal this season.  Hopefully it will convince the Halos to move on from him finally.  I’m not holding my breath though.

The Story: Bobby Abreu and Ozzie Guillen hung out together on the Angels’ off day.

The Monkey Says: Is that like Venezuela’s version of the Odd Couple?

The Story: Mark Trumbo and Hank Conger define homegrown talent.

The Monkey Says: It is pretty cool that they are both local products, but it would be a lot cooler if Scioscia would actually play Trumbo.

The Story: Mike Napoli could be a short-timer.

The Monkey Says: Could be?  I absolutely guarantee it.  He has no place in the Angels’ future plans, especially since Hank Conger looks like he could be for real.  I’ve been saying for weeks that Mike Napoli is definitely going to be traded with the Detroit Tigers a very a frontrunner to be his next team.

The Story: The worst seasons ever by an Angel.

The Monkey Says: Two of those seasons are happening right now thanks to Brandon Wood and Jeff Mathis.  And people wonder why the Angels are so mediocre this season.
