Halo Headlines – 4/28/11

Daily Links for the LA Angels including Morales being sent to see a foot/ankle specialist (uh oh), Pineiro and Downs activated, Palmer demoted, Bulger put on waivers and much more…

The Story: Kendrys Morales is being sent to see a foot/ankle specialist.

The Monkey Says: The Angels are actually only calling him a foot specialist, but the guy is an ankle specialist too which is important since, you know, Morales broke his ankle.  I hate to sound like an alarmist about this, but given his slow rehab process and this bit of news, we should probably start bracing ourselves for some very bad news.

The Story: The Angels have activated Joel Pineiro and Scott Downs from the DL, demoted Matt Palmer to Triple-A and designated Jason Bulger for assignment.

The Monkey Says: All these moves were very much expected.  Palmer has been spotty in the rotation and doesn’t have much upside, so it is no shocker to see him get sent down rather than Tyler Chatwood.  As for Bulger, this move was inevitable due to his struggles this season.  With his injury history and command issues, there is a pretty good chance he will clear waivers, but he may decide to try his luck in another organi.zation anyway.

The Story: Mark Trumbo is trying to find his way out of his slump.

The Monkey Says: What worries me about Trumbo is that he is falling into the same trap that Brandon Wood fell into, constantly falling behind in counts 0-2, never walking and getting punched out breaking balls.

The Story: The Angels won’t skip any one in the rotation so that Jered Weaver can get a shot at winning seven games before May 1st.

The Monkey Says: They could’ve opted to have Weaver start Saturday since they have an off day today, but they aren’t going to do it.  It would’ve been fun to see if Weaver could get the win, but it really wouldn’t have been the Angels’ style to put personal milestones before the good of the team.

The Story: Jordan Walden is adjusting to life as a closer.

The Monkey Says: Walden specifically is trying to get used to not pitching for a few days straight, which actually sort of points out why I have never been a fan of having a designated closer since it actually limits how often your best reliever gets into games.

The Story: Former Angels Bobby Grich and David Frost will hold a free youth baseball clinic this Saturday.

The Monkey Says: A bunch of other major leaguers that your child has never heard of will be there too!
