Angels Player Power Rankings – Week 13

As always, the rankings are based on a player’s overall season performance with a weight on recent performance.

2		+1 Last Week: 3	Jered Weaver – The coaching staff is still babying him a bit, but there is no reason to as he looks better than ever.
3		-1 Last Week: 2	Mark Trumbo – Between the All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby, Kansas City might be declared a natural disaster zone once the dust settles from all the Trumbombs going off.
4		— 0 Last Week: 4	Albert Pujols – If anyone told you before the season that four Angels would make the All-Star Game this season and none of them would be Pujols, you would have been laughed at and possibly beat up and then laughed at again.
5		+1 Last Week: 6	Ernesto Frieri – Ernasty gave us his first real scare this week but the scoreless streak remains intact.
6		-1 Last Week: 5	C.J. Wilson – For a guy who always tweets about throwing strikes, he walked seven batters in 12 innings this week.
7		— 0 Last Week: 7	Scott Downs – Downs is very much a big All-Star snub, which raises the overall count to approximately 274.
8		— 0 Last Week: 8	Torii Hunter – Hunter had hits in just six of his last 13 games, but all six games were multi-hit games.
9		+1 Last Week: 10	Alberto Callaspo – Beto continues to crush the ball. I know, I don’t get it either.
10		+5 Last Week: 15	Kendrys Morales – Kendrys had some big hits this week to officially earn the mantle of the World’s Most Clutch 250-pound Slap-Hitter. I’m sure his mother is very produd.
11		— 0 Last Week: 11	LaTroy Hawkins – Hawk is this week’s winner of the “Reliever that I can’t find anything funny or interesting to say about them” award.
12		-3 Last Week: 9	Howie Kendrick – Three GIDPs and some costly errors, including one that nearly got John Hester decapitated, otherwise Howie had a great week.
13		— 0 Last Week: 13	Ervin Santana – I’m going to go ahead and say there is no reason to panic because of one bad inning. Now, if anyone needs me, I’ll be over here with my head in the sand.
14		— 0 Last Week: 14	Jason Isringhausen – After not giving up a run since May 28th, Izzy allowed runs in two consecutive outings this week.
15		-3 Last Week: 12	Garrett Richards – So, anyone want to rethink that whole, “let’s gift wrap a rotation spot for Richards” thing?
16		— 0 Last Week: 16	Dan Haren – Any chance Dipoto can trade Haren for Saunders, Skaggs and Corbin again? Please? Pretty please?
17		— 0 Last Week: 17	Erick Aybar – Aybar hit .300 this week and had a team-low .668 OPS. That’s not a knock on Aybar so much as it is a complement to the Halo lineup.
18		+1 Last Week: 19	Peter Bourjos – The fact that Speedy Petey is starting to come alive with the bat and also finding his name back in trade rumors is not a coincidence.
19		+3 Last Week: 22	John Hester – I could lie and say I moved him up in the rankings because he hit well this week (and boy, did he) and even threw some guys out on the bases, but really it is because he manned up after taking that cheap shot from Brett Lawrie and dropped the gate on Colby Rasmus just a few batters later in the same inning.
20		— 0 Last Week: 20	Jordan Walden – The Schizo Reliever is back, although I can’t tell if he ever actually left. I just know I don’t want him anywhere near the mound when the Angels are in a close game.
21		— 0 Last Week: 21	Hisanori Takahashi – It was awfully nice of Taka to start sucking again right before all the trade talk starts heating up. I was worried Dipoto might start thinking the Angels don’t need another lefty in the bullpen.
22		+2 Last Week: 24	Maicer Izturis – I’d be more excited about Maicer hitting a little bit this week if every other Angel didn’t also hit well. By comparison, he is still disappointing.
23		— 0 Last Week: 23	Bobby Wilson – Jose Mota was perplexed this week when Hester did not sac bunt in a situation where Bobby Wilson would’ve dropped a sac bunt. He assumed it was because Hester was a bad bunter and totally ignored that maybe it was because Wilson is such a bad hitter.
24		— 0 Last Week: n/a	Andrew Romine – He actually got to play! And he even had some hits!!! He still is just a butt-splinter collector though.
25		— 0 Last Week: 25	David Carpenter – Can someone explain to me why Carpenter is still on the roster and Stephen Geltz is not? Maybe Geltz won’t be any good, but I think we’ve all seen all the Carpenter we need to see at this point.
