Halo Headlines: Mike Trout tops trade value rankings, Angels can’t afford David Price

The December 6th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Mike Trout tops trade value rankings, Angels can't afford David Price and much more…

The Story: Mike Trout is #1 in Grantland's MLB Trade Value Rankings.

The Monkey Says: Was there really any question that it might be someone else? In case you were wondering, no other Angels are on the list. That might help explain why they can't seem to trigger a deal for an impact arm.

The Story: The Angels are one of the teams that want David Price but can't afford him.

The Monkey Says: Is this not what I have been saying for over a month?

The Story: The Rakuten Golden Eagles may not post Masahiro Tanaka.

The Monkey Says: The report claims that they might be pressured by the rest of the NPB to do so though. Let's hope they do, not because the Angels could get him (which is highly unlikely), but rather because it would make it easier for the Angels to sign a free agent pitcher by taking one buyer off the market.

The Story: The Angels signed southpaw reliever Clay Rapada to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The Monkey Says: With Wade LeBlanc, Robert Carson and now Rapada, the Angels have NRI three lefty relievers in training camp. This has every appearance of Jerry Dipoto protecting himself against Sean Burnett not being able to get and stay healthy. It is smart planning and Rapada isn't terrible, but let's hope he and the others aren't needed.

The Story: A look at Mike Trout's place in the record books relating to age 21 players.

The Monkey Says: And I imagine a similar story will be written about his upcoming age 22 season.

The Story: Gary DiSarcina has been named the Minor League Manager of the Year by Baseball America.

The Monkey Says: Good for him. I'm not sure how much meaning that award actually has, but it does show that he is very respected in the industry.

The Story: The Angels will in 90+ games in 2014.

The Monkey Says: Making any kind of win projection when you don't know who 40% of the rotation is seems like a fool's errand to me.
