The January 10th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels to meet with Tanaka, ESPN to air Halos' season opener and much more…
The Monkey Says: Well, maybe. Heyman says they have a meeting planned, but Jeff Fletcher reported earlier that there is no meeting on the books. That being said, there is still an expectation that a meeting will happen at some point. There are two weeks to go before Tanaka has to sign, so expect the pack of suitors to start separating soon.
The Monkey Says: This booking is more about their opponent, the Mariners, though. That will be the first game for Cano as a Mariner, so it should be a television draw even though this is the first time Seattle has been on ESPN since 2011.
The Monkey Says: This sounds great and all, but the hype here is starting to get a little out of hand. Even if his arm feels the best it ever has, he hasn't played in five years, so there is going to be a lot of rust to shake off and conditioning that he needs to catch up on. I'm rooting for him, but no amount of narrative is going to make me believe this is anything other than a longshot.
The Monkey Says: The Halos are giving us all a lovely (and sexy?) Valentine's Day gift by having pitchers and catchers report on February 14th. Everyone else reports February 19th.
The Story: Handicapping Masahiro Tanaka's suitors.
The Monkey Says: Oh! That kind of handicapping! Here I was thinking that there was going to be plans to break Brian Cashman's legs, cut out Theo Epstein tongue and steal Ned Colletti's hairpiece.
The Monkey Says: I love seeing these deeper lists rather than jsut the top 10 as there is always a handful of different names down at the bottom of the longer list that maybe I hadn't paid enough attention to previously.
