Should the Angels fire Don Baylor?

Having only read the title, I know that many of you have already responded with an emphatic, “YES” to the question the title posed. Such is the stance of most Angels fans when it comes to whichever portion of the roster is struggling. If the rotation stinks, fire the pitching coach. If the bullpen struggles, […]

Angels prospects primed to be traded

This time of year, speculation can run wild, especially for teams that are buying at the trade deadline. Sure, everyone likes the fancy name that is made available by a struggling team, but beneath the surface is really where all the action is. The June draft is finally in the rearview mirror, the Angels have […]

Boxscore Breakdown #71: Tight squeeze – Angels 4, Astros 3

The Angels earned a dose of hope for their up-and-down season, but doing so was a tight squeeze both figuratively and literally. The Halos didn’t generate much offense outside of two Albert Pujols dingers, but strong pitching seemingly was going to make that enough. That was until the bullpen faltered. Fortunately, that faltering included a […]

Boxscore Breakdown #70: A little short – Athletics 3, Angels 2

First, apologies for the delay in posting this. I started a new “real” job this week, so I’m working some schedule stuff out. Bear with me the rest of this week until I get settled. As for this game, the real story was how little, tiny Johnny Giavotella almost hit a big fly. It turns out […]

Series Preview: Angels vs. Astros vs. The Space Program

Houston, we have a problem. The Angels host the first place Astros for the next three games, and this whole thing can go one of three ways. The Angels can either gain a whole bunch of ground on the Colt 45’s, they could continue to tread water, or the could fall even further behind with […]

Angels Player Power Rankings – Week 12

Angels Player Power Rankings, the one place where you can be sure to see the Angels hitters without fear of them hitting into an untimely double play. Probably. Maybe. I think so. Look, I’m not making any promises here. NOT LISTED: Alfredo Marte (pinch-runners aren’t people)

MWAHdcast – Episode 4: Strep Throat Edition

This podcast marches on. Through injury and sickness, we will continue. The same can’t really be said about Jered Weaver, but we can get to that later. MJ got enough over strep throat that we were able to sit down and hang out on the internet last night to chit chat about the Angels and things involving the Angels. We did not talk about Max Scherzer, therefore his wife owes us $5.

In this week’s episode, we covered the following wonderful news:

  • The state of the Angels: Mediocrity for everybody!
  • Jered Weaver’s DL trip: Hip inflammation is apparently a thing. Or it is just an excuse to give Weaver a couple of weeks off so the Angels can get a closer look at a minor leaguer. Unless it is Drew Rucinski. They don’t need a closer look at him.
  • Albert Pujols is back-ish: In case you missed it, Albert Pujols is playing, like, really well.
  • Mike Trout‘s effect on Kole Calhoun: Calhoun is little, kind of. Mike Trout is like his protective big brother. Makes sense that Trout would protect him in the lineup.
  • The Good the Bad and the Ugly – 2012 free agent pitchers: This could lead to tears.

Boxscore Breakdown #69: Nice – Athletics 4, Angels 1

It was game #69 for the Angels… nice. The game itself, not so nice. That magical Angels offense that came back on ace Sonny Gray couldn’t get anything going against definite non-ace Jesse Hahn. Jered Weaver didn’t do much to make us feel better about his struggles. The bullpen coughed up more inherited runs to help […]

Boxscore Breakdown #68: Gray skies turned red – Angels 12, Athletics 7

When you go down by five runs to Sonny Gray, you aren’t supposed to come back. That’s basically a death sentence, especially with an offense like that of the Angels. Yet, some way, somehow, the Angels turned everything Gray to Halo Red in one incredible half inning. Could this be a turning point on their season? […]
