Grant Green has been freed, now what?

#FreeGrantGreen has been a thing for much of 2015. It even had some moments during the 2014 season. Since the Angels acquired Grant Green at the 2013 trade deadline, they’ve been oddly reluctant to make use of him. There have been plenty of reasons given over the last two years, but now the Halos finally seem to have […]

Series Preview: Angels vs. Tigers vs. trouble at home

Prior to dropping the Memorial Day weekend series in Boston the Angels had gone unbeaten in five consecutive series. Just a few days later, though, and they’ve dropped two straight series to scuffling Red Sox and Padres teams. Both series exemplified issues that have plagued the Angels all season: lousy offense against weak starting pitchers, […]

Were the 2014 Angels a fluke?

As we near the end of May, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that how we perceive the Angels, and thus, how they’ve built their 2015 team has happened under false pretenses. Last year, the Angels had the best offense in baseball, anchored by MVP Mike Trout, former MVP’s Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton, and fully supported […]

Series Recap: Fathers aid in furthering Halos’ slide

In a way, the Padres and Angels are in much the same boat. Both clubs entered the 2015 season with lofty expectations, albeit for two separate reasons (an outstanding 2014 for the Angels and a splashy offseason for San Diego), but have fluttered out of the gate, and now sit just below .500 as we […]

Boxscore Breakdown #47: Going down – Padres 5, Angels 4

And back under .500 the Angels go. The hope the team had grabbed hold but a few short weeks ago has been dashed against the fake plastic rocks in center field. Their ace just fumbled away a winnable game as the offense continued to struggle to the point that they made a comically inept Padres […]

Is Hector Santiago trade bait?

Hector Santiago turned in another solid performance Sunday, holding the Red Sox offense to three runs in 6⅔ innings of work. The outing was Santiago’s fourth consecutive quality start and his sixth overall in nine tries. The southpaw has now allowed three runs or fewer in eight of his nine starts on the year, and owns […]

Want an Angels trade? Wait awhile

Everyone wants the Angels to make a trade desperately. At least I assume everyone does. Angels fans definitely do, but I imagine fans of other teams do as well because nobody can possibly enjoy watching a lineup as comically inept as the Angels lineup. Even AL West rivals have to see that this isn’t the […]

Boxscore Breakdown #46: Less than zero – Padres 4, Angels 0

What’s the only thing worse than a typical shutout? Getting shutout in extra innings. It is a shutout plus some. It is an exaggerated display of your own incompetence. You’ve been given extra opportunities to get on the board and yet you still fail. It is the salt in an already open and festering wound. It […]

Josh Hamilton returns, the Angels fan perspective

There was a slugfest in Cleveland yesterday that the Texas Rangers won 10-8. While a Memorial Day match between two sub .500 teams may not seem like the biggest deal to Angels fans, it was actually a very interesting game for the Halos. The Rangers have won six in a row and sit just a […]

Angels Quote of the Day: Jered Weaver was doing what to the ball?

After his last successful start, Jered Weaver was telling Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com what he did to solve his early season problems:

“I’m just not jerking off the ball anymore.”

Uh, well, yeah. That seems like a bad idea. I was never a pitcher, but I’m pretty sure that is not what you are supposed to do to the ball. So what are you supposed to do?

“My front side was kind of erratic and I wanted to clean that up. But my front side has been a lot better, which leads to a better arm slot, so everything’s coming out of the same slot now. It’s a good feeling.”

Oooohhhh! Now I understand, that makes a lot more sense than the other thing. A lot more family-friendly, too.

TORONTO, CANADA - MAY 21: Matt Shoemaker #52 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim exits the game as he is relieved by manager Mike Scioscia #14 in the seventh inning during MLB game action against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 21, 2015 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Will the real Matt Shoemaker please stand up?

Coming into last season, Angels fans didn’t know what to expect from the teams’ starting rotation. Garrett Richards was finally going to get a full season as a starter, but would there be growing pains? Jered Weaver had lost even more velocity on his fastball, how was that going to translate? Hector Santiago and Tyler […]
