The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are struggling as of late, currently losers of four straight and seven of their past ten. Despite their current mini slide, the Halos are in the thick of the playoff race, both for the American League West division and AL Wild Card hunt.
In the division, the deficit increased over this past weekend between the Angels and the first-place Astros after Houston completed a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Angels were disposed of by the Blue Jays. As a result, they now sit five games back, and also must worry about the Texas Rangers, who leapfrogged them for second place in the division.
The Rangers are now 1.5 games ahead of the Angels, not just for second in the AL West, but also for one of the two AL Wild Card berths. With a virtual tie atop the division in the American League East between the Yankees and Blue Jays, one of those two teams will be the AL Wild Card front-runner. There are still eight teams who have a chance, albeit some with an outside one, to steal a spot: The Rangers (leading by 1.5 games), Angels, Twins (both trail by 1.5), Orioles, Rays (both trail by 2.5), Tigers (trail by 5.5), White Sox (trail by 6) and Indians (trail by 6.5).
Keeping an eye on all of these teams during the playoff races is made easier with the MLB Network through US Dish packages. It’s the perfect time to sign up for the final month of action, as package rates are structured around your budget.
With it all coming down to the final stretch of the season, below are some of the key dates and secondary market prices for Angels tickets during the playoff chase, according to TiqIQ.com.
9/7/2015 | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Angels Stadium | Average Price: $111.34 | Get-in Price: $22
9/8/2015 | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Angels Stadium | Average Price: $99.22 | Get-in Price: $20
9/9/2015 | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Angels Stadium | Average Price: $105.99 | Get-in Price: $21
The three most expensive games remaining on the Angels schedule are against the crosstown rival Dodgers. Along with the local rivalry, both teams are either trying to gain ground in pennant races or trying to make up ground with games flying off baseball’s calendar. There will be some extra-added juice to an already strong history between the two clubs.
9/23/2015 | Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Minute Maid Park | Average Price: $83.68 | Get-in Price: $9
10/3/2015 | Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Globe Life Park | Average Price: $80.14 | Get-in Price: $9
These two teams are directly in the Angels’ way for a postseason bid, as analyzed earlier. Each game between the Astros, Rangers and even the Twins will be crucial towards Anaheim’s postseason push. A sweep in any direction between either of these clubs can knock one of the teams out or propel them towards the next level. With the competition so jumbled up, it’s looking probable that the Wild Card race won’t be settled until the final weekend of the campaign.
