Halo Headlines – 5/6/09

  • INJURY UPDATE: John Lackey was outstanding in his rehab start for Salt Lake.  Sounds like one more start in the minors should be all he needs to be given a clean bill of health.
  • A quick look at some of the risers and fallers in the Angels minor league system.  I’m surprised the Angels actually have any pitchers left in the minors, to be honest.
  • We knew it was coming, Brandon Wood was optioned back to Triple-A with Reggie Willits getting recalled.  This was a necessary move since Wood wasn’t getting playing time, so he needs to be in Salt Lake to get some ABs.  Willits should assume Wood’s spot at the end of the bench.  While Willits deserves to be in the majors, I fail to see why a third catcher was not called up instead with the Napoli at DH experiment going so well.
  • The Angels are getting great performances from some unlikely starting pitchers courtesy of some “mental overhauls.”
  • PUFF PIECE ALERT: A look at Matt Palmer’s unlikely journey to the Angel rotation.
