Halo Headlines – 7/24/09

  • The Story: Arte Moreno says the Angels are still interested in acquiring an ace like Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee.  The Monkey Says: So much for playing it close to the vest, Arte.  I like that the Angels are being aggressive but they need to fix the bullpen first.
  • The Story: Mike Scioscia insists that Tony Reagins is very active in trade talks for bullpen depth.  The Monkey Says: Really, Sosh?  Then explain to me how the Rockies snagged Rafael Betancourt for a fring prospect and the Angels whiffed on him even though he was near the top of their shopping list.
  • The Story: Check out the Angels’ logo for the 2010 All-Star Game.  The Monkey Says: Umm, looks good to me.  That is all.
  • The Story: Mickey Hatcher is feeling a whole lot better about himself now that the Angel offense is so dangerous. The Monkey Says: As much as it pains me to admit it, Hatcher has actually done a good job this year.  Either that or the Angels just need to fire him and officially name Bobby Abreu the hitting coach.
  • The Story: The Angels are allegedly strongly considering dealing for struggling Rays “ace” Scott Kazmir.  The Monkey Says: There is no word on what the Angels need to give up to get him, but if the price is cheap, he is a nice gamble as a renovation project.  The Halos would only need him to be a fifth starter for now, so it isn’t like him being an ace again is crucial.  Tampa Bay might well just want the Angels to take his salary off their hands which seems like a reasonable deal to me.
