- Juan Rivera’s breakout season continues to get attention. That four year, $12 million contract is starting to look like a giant bargain but still doesn’t offset Gary Matthews’s horrendous deal, not that I am still bitter about that.
- Everyone wants to talk about the Angels chasing Roy Halladay, but their more preferred trade targets are reportedly Scott Downs, Brandon League, Chad Qualls and Rafael Betancourt.
- Not to be outdone by the Angels hosting the 2010 MLB All-Star Game, the Salt Lake Bees will host the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game. Suck it, Arte Moreno!
- PUFF PIECE ALERT: It seems Mike Scioscia is writing under an assumed name for the OC Register now and has produced a lovely piece about how wonderful Maicer Izturis has been this season.
- INJURY UPDATE: Kelvim Escobar hasn’t touched a baseball since being placed on the disabled list weeks ago but the medical staff hasn’t raised any alarm yet. Still, I am not buying that Escobar ever pitches for the Angels again.
- Mike Scioscia still likes Kevin Jepsen’s future despite his bloated numbers this year. Jepsen’s hard work and recently accidentally discoverd cutter have made him a favorite of Sosh, meaning he is probably in the majors to stay even if he doesn’t get anyone out for the next month.
