Halo Headlines – 9/1/09

  • The Story: Torii Hunter loves the Kazmir deal because he hated having to face him with Tampa.  The Monkey Says: That’s as good as endorsements get when it comes to Torii and sets a great example for the rest of the club.
  • The Story: Dustin Moseley is recovering from hip surgery.  The Monkey Says: Moseley should be ready by Spring Training, but the Angels can’t possibly be very interested in giving him a shot at the roster given his recent injury history.
  • The Story: Torii Hunter blogs about how he tries to emulate Ken Griffey.  The Monkey Says: Hopefully that doesn’t mean that Hunter is going to become an injury-prone, washed up slugger in the near future.
  • The Story: Joe Saunders should be used as an example of why players should never hide injuries.  The Monkey Says: You are preaching to the choir here.  Saundo should’ve spoken up months ago to not only help the team, but also to help himself.  Joe is arbitration eligible this off-season and probably cost himself a lot of money with his injury-induced performance this season.
  • The Story: Trevor Bell impressed Mike Scioscia with his bullpen work last night.  The Monkey Says: The Angels are pretty much looking for anyone with a pulse in the pen right now, so if Bell can keep it up, he could have a big relief role by the end of the year.
  • The Story: Jason Bulger’s shoulder is feeling better and will be tested out today, but he still won’t make a game appearance until the weekend at the earliest.  The Monkey Says: That is decently good news, but I’ll be holding my breath until he returns to action.
  • AL West Update: The Rangers got clobbered 18-10 last night.  The Monkey Says: The Rangers were down 11-0 and made it 11-10 before Toronto pulled away late.  Either way, the Rangers are now six back of the Angels.
