The August 26th, 2011 edition of daily news for the LA Angels including Ozzie Guillen has “never seen a white man that can run” as fast as Peter Bourjos, the math and logic of having Weaver and Santana pitch on short rest, Bourjos credits Mickey Hatcher for his offensive surge and much more…
The Story: Ozzie Guillen says of Peter Bourjos, “I’ve never seen a white man that can run that fast.”
The Monkey Says: I love Ozzie Guillen. He is kind of racist, but in a lovable and funny sort of way.
The Story: The math and logic on having Jered Weaver and Ervin Santana pitch on short rest.
The Monkey Says: I continue to be torn on whether or not this is a good idea, but this article seems to suggest it is a bad idea.
The Story: Peter Bourjos credits Mickey Hatcher for his offensive surge.
The Monkey Says: That’s it Bourjos, you’re dead to me! How am I supposed to maintain my man-crush on you when you give credit to Mickey Hatcher? I’m not angry, I’m just very disappointed.
The Story: Howie Kendrick has not popped up to the infield all season long.
The Monkey Says: That is unbelievable. Obviously that is partly luck, but it still blows my mind that anyone can do that. Even more impressive is that he has only popped out 11 times in his entire career. Also, there is some good stuff in there about Dan Haren and his command and cutter.
The Story: The Rangers have played in a ridiculous number of extremely hot weather games this season.
The Monkey Says: Angel fans always joke about the Rangers melting in the Texas heat every August, but we usually just mean they choke. This year they literally are melting (and choking too!). If this is the kind of weather the Angels can expect this weekend, then I think it make the decision to pitch Weaver and Santana on short rest even more puzzling.
The Story: Another labor union at Angel Stadium has authorized a potential strike.
The Monkey Says: I can handle the ushers and ticket takers going on strike, but I’ll be damned if anyone is going to interfere with getting me my beer and hot dogs! Pay up, Arte!!! Also, there is no truth to the rumors that the union is considering hiring Scott Boras to represent them.
The Story: A look at how teams prosper (or don’t) from their baserunning.
The Monkey Says: It is nice to see some statistical proof that the Angels are seeing benefits from their aggressive baserunning this year after they seemingly ran themselves into out after out last year.
The Story: The momentum in the AL West swung on Mark Trumbo’s walk-off home run last week.
The Monkey Says: That seems like forever ago, doesn’t it?
The Story: The resurgence of the Angels is an inspiration for an ALS-stricken Angel fan.
The Monkey Says: Now they are obligated to the win guy a World Series, right?
