The Angels have unexpectedly surged into the wildcard race this week, with today’s win cementing them in the race for the rest of the season. At the beginning of the season I didn’t think the Angels would come this close to the wildcard this far into the season, let alone watch them fight their way past a struggling Red Sox team. Oh how poetically sweet the justice would be if the Angels trumped the Red Sox for the AL wildcard, it would be the perfect revenge against Carl Crawford. No I still haven’t gotten over it, and I won’t unless he watches the team he shunned in the offseason step all over his new team to make it to the playoffs. I don’t think you’ll have a better chance of winning a ring with the Red Sox if you’re sitting at home your team that should have been thrive in the post-season. Enough about my obsession with Carl Crawford, on to last night’s game.
Game Notes
- Dan Haren turned his luck around last night with a big game, going 7 innings and giving up only 2 runs. His exit was a little less graceful, as he was taken out of the game after getting hit with a line drive off his wrist. Luckily for both us and Haren it was his glove hand that was hit, so there’s no worries about him not being able to play the rest of the season/playoffs. There hasn’t been much news on whether Dan Haren will have to take time off to heal, so that’s a good sign. Unless his wrist broke, which I heavily doubt, the Angels should be fine for the rest of the season. Let me just knock on some wood for a second here….
- Bourjos’ hot bat continues to scorch the opposition as he hit his 12th homerun of the season last night, and his 10th triple. Let me back up for a minute here and say one thing, we get practically the same production from Peter Bourjos that we could have gotten from Carl Crawford at a much much MUCH cheaper rate, so in his face. Bourjos wasn’t the only player to hit a huge jack last night, Wells got in on the action also (surprisingly). Wells must really love Rogers Centre, his power seems to inflate whenever he makes the trip back home. He’s hit 3 homeruns in Toronto this season, 2 coming in this series. I don’t see why he’d miss it so much with all the fans giving him undeserved hate when he goes back home. It’s not like he’s John Lackey or anything, he’s done nothing to those fans to draw their ire (except take all their money). But that isn’t his fault, because that was under the pretense that he wouldn’t suck so hard. But then again, he didn’t start sucking until he came to Anaheim, so why all the hate Toronto? Maybe it’s just society.
Halo Hero
Look at that face, that’s the look of a true hero right there. Dan has been a hero for this team ever since he jumped on board last season, now maybe he can make the jump from hero to champion next month. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope for the best.
