The March 6th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Angels win big in their spring opener, Pujols intends to play a lot this spring, Morales embarking on what might be the most important week of his career and much more…

The Story: The Angels made their spring debut, defeating the Athletics 9-1 behind a big day from Albert Pujols.

The Monkey Says: There might never have been a more anticipated first Cactus League at-bat than Pujols’ first AB, which he cashed in for an RBI double.  The other new Halos had a nice days as well with Wilson sharp through two innings and Iannetta smacking a home run.  It is worth noting that Bobby Abreu was in the original starting lineup before being scratched due to illness.

The Story: Albert Pujols intends to play more than a normal “star” player would in spring training.

The Monkey Says: This is just another example of Pujols showing off his commitment to routine and hard work.  He also made other comments today suggesting that it is also a little bit about getting to familiarize himself with pitchers in the American League in advance of facing them in the regular season.

The Story: Kendrys Morales has begun what might be the most important week of his career.

The Monkey Says: I embellished the level of importance over what Scioscia stated, but I don’t believe that I am overselling it.  If he can’t get through this week, then it could be back to the drawing board for his whole recovery.  However, if he passes with flying colors, then we are going to be mere inches away from seeing Kendrys return to live action.

The Story: All the reasons why Vernon Wells will improve in 2012.

The Monkey Says: One could argue that he was so bad last season that he can’t help but improve, so this isn’t as bold a statement as one might think at first blush.  Wells did look good in his first spring action though, drawing a walk and hitting the ball hard in all of his other at-bats, including a two-run single in his first at-bat.

The Story: The Angels have several roster concerns despite the addition of Albert Pujols.

The Monkey Says: I am truly shocked that a feature story emanating from the LA Times would attempt to take a dump all over what should be a more joyous occasion.

The Story: Former Angel and president of the Southern League Don Mincher passed away.

The Monkey Says: He will be missed.
