Coming off the best week of the Angels’ season, you know there is going to be plenty of moving and shaking in this week’s power rankings, including a big jump up the ranks by you know who.

As always, the rankings are based on a player’s overall season performance with a weight on recent performance.

RANK PLAYER CHANGE COMMENTS
1 Jered Weaver green arrow up+1
Last Week: 1
Jered Weaver – I don’t know if it means anything, but Weaver has had four or less strikeouts in each of his last four starts.
2 Mark Trumbo Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 1
Mark Trumbo – He slowed down a bit this week, but he might be on his way back up after that titanic blast he his in yesterday’s game.
3 C.J. Wilson green arrow up+1
Last Week: 4
C.J. Wilson – After last week’s hiccup against the ChiSox, Mr. Lefty Lefty bounced back with 14 innings of one-run ball and would’ve had more if he could just remember to not try and catch comebackers with his pitching hand.
4 Mike Trout Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 3
Mike TroutHe came back to earth this week, but as we saw several times this week, Trout’s speed will prevent him from ever going into a slump for very long.
5 Ernesto Frieri green arrow up+1
Last Week: 6
Ernesto Frieri – In a few short weeks, he’s gone from a solid trade addition to the closer of the future to the co-closer of the present and arguably the filthiest reliever in all of baseball.  Ernasty!
6 Scott Downs Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 5
Scott Downs – Frieri is getting all the attention, but let’s not forget that Downs still has not given up a run.  He just isn’t as flashy about it as Ernesto.
7 Dan Haren green arrow up+1
Last Week: 8
Dan Haren –A shutout and 14 strikeouts?  Yeah, I think his back is all better now
8 Albert Pujols green arrow up+6
Last Week: 14
Albert Pujols – No more cautious optimism here, the Machine is clearly back in full working order.
9 Howie Kendrick green arrow up+1
Last Week: 10
Howie Kendrick – He doesn’t have an extra-base hit since May 9th, but he gets extra credit for his game-winning pinch-hit single against Seattle.
10 Kendrys Morales Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 9
Kendrys Morales – He was so bad most of the week that his job security was being questioned, but then he went and salvage everything on Sunday.
11 Ervin Santana Red arrow down-4
Last Week: 7
Ervin Santana – He tried like crazy to ruin the winning streak, but the offense bailed him out.  I suppose they owe him after the total lack of support he got to start the year.
12 Alberto Callaspo green arrow up+3
Last Week: 15
Alberto Callaspo – If we learned one thing from Callaspo’s pinch-hit grand slam off of King Felix, it is that the Mayans were right.
13 Jordan Walden green arrow up+1
Last Week: 12
Jordan Walden – Every outing is still an adventure, but he keeps escaping unscathed, which can only help his confidence.  Now if he could just figure out how to stop burying his slider.
14 Jerome Williams Red arrow down-3
Last Week: 11
Jerome WilliamsThe wheels on the Pink Puka Express are starting to get a little wobbly, but Jerome showed that even when he isn’t on his game, he can battle and keep the Halos in it.
15 Maicer Izturis Red arrow down-2
Last Week: 13
Maicer Izturis – Izzy is in a funk so deep, Erick Aybar looks like he is crushing the ball by comparison.
16 Peter Bourjos — 0
Last Week: 16
Peter Bourjos – Looks like Speedy Petey is going to be this year’s official winner of the “Guy Scioscia Buries on the Bench For No Apparent Reason” Award.
17 Jason Isringhausen green arrow up+3
Last Week: 20
Jason Isringhausen – Izzy earned his first win as an American Leaguer since 2001.  Dude is old.
18 Hisanori Takahashi green arrow up+3
Last Week: 21
Hisanori Takahashi – I don’t know what he’s doing differently, but it appears to be working.  Suddenly I only need one Rolaid whenever Taka gets the call from the pen.
19 David Carpenter — 0
Last Week: 19
David Carpenter – He did not pitch once all week.  That is less of a comment on Carpenter and more of a comment on how great the rotation and the top Angel relievers were this week.
20 Erick Aybar Red arrow down-3
Last Week: 17
Erick Aybar – It is one thing to kill the team at the plate, but for him to also hurt the team with boneheaded decisions in the field makes his nightmare season even harder to stomach.
21 NO IMAGE AVAILABLE — 0
Last Week: n/a
Kole Calhoun – The Ginger Kid didn’t take long to earn Mike Scioscia’s trust and he definitely held his own when given a shot.  Not bad for a guy that has no soul.
22 John Hester green arrow up+1
Last Week: 23
John Hester – He isn’t doing anything special, but that still might be good enough for him to be the guy who sticks around when Chris Iannetta gets healthy.
23 Bobby Wilson Red arrow down-1
Last Week: 22
Bobby WilsonHe can’t hit.  He can’t throw guys out.  He can’t block pitches.  Turns out all those comparisons Wilson got to Jeff Mathis were insults to Jeff Mathis.
24 Bobby Cassevah — 0
Last Week: n/a
Bobby Cassevah – A key cog in the pen down the stretch last season, he finally gets the call up.  Now, when is he actually going to get to pitch?
25 Andrew Romine — 0
Last Week: 25
Andrew Romine – I hope he enjoys his cup of coffee in the bigs, because he is probably going to be back in the minors by the time this posts.

Biggest Riser: Pujols, up six spots

Biggest Dropper: Santana, down four spots

Dropped from rankings: David Pauley (sent to minors), Ryan Langerhans (DL), Wells (DL)
