The Story: Scott Downs threw off a mount yesterday and will return to the closer’s role today, most likely.
The Monkey Says: This is the second injury bullet that Downs had dodged this year, let’s hope there won’t be a third.
The Story: Jered Weaver appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman to deliver the Top 10 list.
The Monkey Says: That clip is only the preview, I’m sure the full clip will be available sometime today. All I know is that Weaver scores points with me by not being a Leno fan.
The Monkey Says: Historical comps are tricky business but this is a hopeful study, though it is predicated on Albert being as old as he says he is. The other issue involved here is that none of those players really had a disastrous start to their age 32 seasons, so Pujols might be the outlier in the group.
The Story: Jerry Dipoto knows that the bullpen needs Jordan Walden to return to form if it is going to survive.
The Monkey Says: Clearly Jerry is a smart man, or just a member of the Captain Obvious fan club. I think the best solution to get Walden back on track would be to ask permission to move the plate four feet closer to the mound whenever he is in the game, that way his slider will actually be able to find the strike zone.
The Monkey Says: This should be a lot of fun, assuming that the Angels don’t get swept by Texas, in which case I motion to follow the Watch Party with a memorial service for the 2012 Angels season. Oh, and I will be part of the roundtable, as I mentioned yesterday.
