The Story: Ernesto Frieri is on the verge of making history and forcing his way into being the official closer.
The Monkey Says: If he gets his next batter out, he will have thrown the equivalent of a nine-inning no-hitter since being traded to the Angels. And if it is a strikeout, he’ll have 20 in those nine-innings, which would tie the most strikeout ever in a nine-inning start, though I don’t know about nine innings of relief work. As for him being the closer, who cares. I hate the whole capital “C” closer thing and have no problem if Scioscia continues to allow Frieri and Downs to share the role since it allows them to be used best based off of match-ups.

The Monkey Says: Amazing what not swinging at everything can do for a player. The real irony of all of this is that newly fired Mickey Hatcher probably played some kind of role in helping Trumbo improve to the level he is at now. Oh sweet, irony!

The Monkey Says: Romine may not be up for long, but he needs to make an impression as he could be in line to take over for Maicer Izturis who is a free agent at the end of the season.
