I imagine that I have written this before, but I really love the kids on this team. It’s really a sight to see when young kids step up into the limelight and make a difference. Once this season is over, hopefully not until late October, the emergence of a new generation of Angel players will be the story of the year. Tonight, the kids came up big with some help from a few wily old vets to keep the Halo playoff hopes flickering. All this in spite of some alarming work from Jered Weaver. Who would of thought two weeks ago, that the offense would be keying the drive alive instead of the starting pitching?

Game Notes

— Should we be worried about The Weave? Tonight he seemed unable to finish hitters off. He had a ton of 0-2 or 1-2 counts but seemingly couldn’t get through innings quickly. He did get the win but with the 6 earned runs his ERA is now a very normal 2.59. Weaver will get another 5 or so starts and needs to lock it down pretty quickly. The rotation can’t affor any other issues as it is.
— Torii Hunter needs to get some love for his work lately. There has been a rumour running around the Twitterverse that Hunter is contemplating retirement after next season. If he keeps hitting the way has in the past month, he can stick around as long as he wants.
— On the other end of the age spectrum, it was the babies that really delivered. Mark Trumbo sealed up his rookie of the year award with a huge first inning grand slam. Mike Trout put up another multi-hit performance and Peter Bourjos slammed another homer. Ladies and gentlemen of Angel Nation, the future is solid.

Bobby Cassevah - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v St. Louis Cardinals

How often can we credit the middle relief with winning the game? With Weaver falling apart, in came Bobby Cassevah who only went 2 2/3 innings of 1 hit ball to give the Angels enough time to get back in control of the game. Whether he deserves it or not, Cassevah has been thrust into a larger role and seems to have settled in. Just another way youth is being served.
