The Story: Mike Scioscia reflects on managing his 2,000th game with the Angels.
The Monkey Says: Scioscia “reflected on it” in typical Scioscia fashion by downplaying the importance and making a self-deprecating joke. Nonetheless, it is an impressive feat as he is only the eighth manager ever to be at the helm for 2,0000 or more games with one team. Six of the other seven managers are Hall of Famers, save for Tom Kelly. There is a real chance that Scioscia will wind up being second all-time on that list if he ends up managing the rest of this season then four-plus more.
The Story: Bobby Wilson left last night’s game after taking a foul tip off the mask.
The Monkey Says: It sounds like they were just being careful with Wilson in case he had a concussion, as he does have a history of concussions dating back to when he got steamrolled by Mark Teixeira early in the 2010 season. Even if he checks out OK, this sure seems like a great excuse to call up Hank Conger and see what he can do.
The Story: Jered Weaver is pain-free and stepping up his throwing program.
The Monkey Says: He still isn’t even doing full long-toss, so don’t get too excited. He looks to be on pace to return from the DL when his 15 days are up.
The Story: Should Mike Trout be an All-Star?
The Monkey Says: His numbers certainly hold up to All-Star standards right now. Futhermore, the All-Star Game is based on fans getting to see the most exciting players and I can’t imagine a more exciting (and marketable) player for MLB to feature in the Mid-Summer Classic. But since Bud Selig, enemy of fun, is prominently involved, Trout will somehow get left out.

The Monkey Says: Great info there about how he is using his two-seamer more and thus having more success, which is kind of mind-blowing since it is such a devastating pitch that I don’t know why he woud’ve ever thrown as little as he did.
