• The Story: The Angels activated Jeff Mathis from the disabled list.   The Monkey Says: A week later than expected, but still very much needed.  Now Mike Napoli can focus learning first base the rest of the season.  Let’s just hope Jeff can pick up where he left off before the injury and continue his breakout season with the bat.
  • The Story: Darin Erstad officially declares his career over.   The Monkey Says: We all pretty much knew it, but that doesn’t make it any less sad.  For me, this really hits home as Ersty is the player that really cemented my love for the Angels.  Thank you, Darin.
  • The Story: Joel Pineiro is proving to be a bargain.   The Monkey Says: I have to admit, I was skeptical of his signing, but it is paying off so far.  He can be pretty bad at times, but Pineiro has been mostly good and actually seems to be getting even better as the season rolls on.  I guess maybe Tony Reagins does know what he is doing after all.
  • The Story: Trevor Reckling has been demoted to the Salt Lake Bees bullpen.   The Monkey Says: Even though the move is temporary so that he can work on mechanical issues, this does not bode well for the guy that entered the season as the Halos’ top pitching prospect and even a dark horse for a rotation spot.  Hopefully he can figure his problems out because the Angels don’t have a whole lot of promising starting pitcher talent in the upper levels of their farm system.
  • The Story: Kevin Frandsen is finding happiness in Anaheim.   The Monkey Says: The legend of Frandsen the great locker room guy just continues to grow which is only going to make it harder for Brandon Wood to earn his job back since the clubhouse isn’t likely to be on his side.
  • The Story: The other Francisco Rodriguez.   The Monkey Says: Mex-Rod?  Really?  Nope, not buying it.  Besides, don’t you have to have some degree of high level success before you get a nickname?
