Halo Headlines – 6/22/10
- The Story: Bobby Wilson is the Angels’ secret weapon. The Monkey Says: The 10-1 record seems like a fluke, but the Halos might as well keep going to the well until it runs dry. Don’t expect Wilson to become Weaver’s personal catcher either as that kind of arrangement is something Mike Scioscia has never been a big fan of.
- The Story: Michael Ryan has been assigned to the Salt Lake Bees. The Monkey Says: Ryan cleared waivers and wisely chose to remain with the Angels even though he may not get a shot at joining the active roster again anytime soon.
- The Story: A surprising quartet has stabilized the Angel infield. The Monkey Says: I don’t know about stabilized, more like held down the fort. I guarantee Mike Scioscia is dying for Aybar and Izturis to get back so that the Angel infield can be a lot more adept at catching the ball.
- The Story: Tony Reagins’ first deal was a clear winner. The Monkey Says: Yeah, but only because Marek and Kotchman were such colossal flops. Getting just a few months out of Teixeira is probably not what Reagins had in mind at the time, so I really wonder if he considers it win.
- The Story: Versatility defines Kevin Frandsen and the Dodgers’ Jamey Carroll. The Monkey Says: I didn’t realize it was utility infielder appreciation week.
- The Story: Projecting the 2010 AL All-Star Team. The Monkey Says: What? No Brandon Wood? I declare shenanigans! But seriously, folks. Weaver and Hunter really are the only two legit options for the All-Star squad this year and I think both should make the team, especially Weaver. My one quibble with the list is that Mike Napoli wasn’t even considered a possibility at catcher.
